Where do you live? Yes, this particular show may be an American creation and opportunity, but that shouldn't alter the idea behind making a reality Art Show concept happen. If you are not able to paricipate in the American vision, you can promote this idea in your country, province or town. Now, that would be a challenge! Do you think you might elaborate on the "interesting questions regarding art, media and our society these days" that you mentioned?

Life is a gamble. You either go for it or you don't. You have a choice. I have taken several leaps of faith with my art. If the opportunity sounded sketchy, I understood the risks I was taking and wasn't planning on complaining if it went bad. Do I read fear woven into your comment? Well, breathe easy, you can just say no and watch the leapers take their knocks and, perhaps, reap some rewards from the jump into the unknown. I love entering the unknown. The planned out world bores me. Unfortunately, I can not afford nor am I willing to leave my three rescued cats for long periods of time to jump into this challenge. If I had no beloved animals and had a little money, I just might take the leap.

i can see this art competition reality t.v. show being pretty cheesy. canada had this reality about interior design and industrial design hosted by this woman "Debbie Travis" which had some cool "challenges" and the first prize was that you'd become Travis' assistant designing some big condominium project with her. i'd at least check out one episode of the art reality show to see how bad (or good) it is, but would never consider personally entering.

i can see it now though - i tall, moody art school dropout type of guy gets super drunk at the mega mansion on the first night, getting in a catfight over who got to choose the nicest bedroom and subsequently sabotages the work of his rival, by painting over their piece du resistance!
freaking reality t.v. man.

read the fine print on the 23 page application, you in essence give up all or the majority of your privacy rights, if your career or reputation is damaged by your participation you have no recourse. Editing is at there discretion. Could it be the big break artists flock to New York seeking ? Possibly but who are the judges, the panels, and what exactly is the big break you receive???? If you are mid career, this is more of a risk to consider while as a beginner or art student you really can't go wrong in trying this out.

hi Nicholas - don't just too high too fast -it's not an "art world" show it's American show (even thought that the American's like to see themselves as the "world") - "You must be (a) a citizen of the U.S" .

as well the term "reality show" when it comes to art is really interesting - our dear friend Andy promised each one of us 15 min of been in the T.V and i guess that nowadays we get a little bit more.

on top of that don't forget the bottom line - money....
"art produce culture with the sponsorship of money or does art produce money with the sponsorship of culture ?" - Secret Artist

and don't forget - www.we-make-money-not-art.com/
and sex sells - ask Sarah :)

good luck to all American's and maybe the best win

The Artist Reality show is fascinating, but I am extremely camera shy, have been a recluse for quite a while. Althought, I am a people magnet. I like to see things in people, art, etc., that aren't visible to the naked eye

Actually, this is the first challenge that has interested me in a long while. I would love to go for it, but I am much older now (65) and less resilient than I used to be. The thought of a casting call is unimaginable now. Wish the tryouts were in Raleigh, NC or closer to Murrells Inlet, SC. Do they make house calls? lol

I will watch the show and cheer on the selected artists. What an honor in itself it will be for them to be chosen for the FIRST new Art Reality show.

As for me, an interesting question would be: which of those places in the Internet is the best (for example: from the point of view of efficiency) for the promotion of art?
Thanks for the links :)

Of course all anybody knows is what they were taught & what they figured out for themselves, I myself enjoy doing thought provoving, controversial artwork, some agree, some don't, but in my mind nobody has the right to hate others no matter how much they disagree, they're still a person & a work of Art themselves! I've learned alot over my years here, fossilized- customs .com gave me much to think about & also great inspiration for the artwork I'm able to do. If some Art offends you, you don't have to keep looking at it. Shalom.

Great post

As a new comer to the online art market I find this post very valuable. Obviously I want to become one of the most prestigious websites for my target market in Australia so I want to find out how have these websites been able to do this? Is it the art galleries linked to these websites or is it the artists?

I am very interested in the subject of art sales online and keen on everyones experiences and opinions on this.

Wow wee! This is fantastic information. I will try and check them all out.
I just sent my work to www.artmoney.org
Its a new concept in Denmark set up by an artist. All artists can send in art that becomes a currency that can be spent in shops world wide that will take it as part payment or collected by a collector. The works have to be stain proof and be 12 cm by 18cm. Which took me some time to work out the stain proof bit.
Please do buy my money so it goes around the world.
All money is worth one artmoney at 27 euros, also sold in Danish kroner 200 kn or 34 US dollars.
I have made 40 pictures that make up a whole giant self portrait, if put together. I also have a performance art piece inspired by my art money, to one day soon perform at the art money club in Copenhagen.

This docu was plain bad. Filmmaker Ben Lewis seemed like a bittered Michael Moore without his good sense of (sarcastic) humor. Lewis should check out the work of people like Louis Theroux and learn that sincere interest in his subject (without prejudice) reveals / tells you a lot more than hammering your point down the viewers throat.

I just discover you interesting site. I'm french and very fond of aboriginal art. I went in Alice Springs several times and I met a genius painter : Nyurrapaya Nampijinpa (aka Mrs Bennett). I feel she is the most gifted in Pintupi community, maybe more than the most popular like Naata or Ningura... but she is not know out of Australia.
How explain that and what do you think about her ?

All are funny
I do not know who has claimed arts market is isolated and have not been affected by crisis that you are criticizing it... who claimed that art market is immune that your temperature is going high??? it is obvious that very first organizations that have felt drop are art organizations.. arts always have had a fragile market... this is very clear.. where most of their incomes are from sponsorship when other sectors are suffering from financial shortages the first thing that they cut is their budget of donation and sponsorship costs .. you have written lots of words with repetition to explain something that no body claimed it... you are saying that arts market have not been connected with other market... funny.. may be the only sector that always is related with other sectors is art.. from mining industry to sport for cooperation, donation and sponsorship... who has said arts market is not connected with other sectors???? and also not just this time always art market has not been immune. if government does not support it there is no art... please do not talk about this things when you do not know anything about them.... Mr critic
